Example work

Working examples.

See how a supporting tool can keep a hold visible, leave a QC exception open, and require preparation checks before a handoff.

I built these demonstrations independently with fictional data. All organizations, people, records, values, criteria, and dates are invented. These are interface examples, not client projects, employer systems, or analytical procedures.

01 · Sample visibility

Sample tracking

A queue showing stages, owners, and holds. On-hold work stays visible so the follow-up doesn’t disappear.

  4. Prep note · Initial preparation steps recorded.

DEMO-104 is on hold: preparation volume needs confirmation; Avery Lane owns the follow-up.

DEMO-106 needs review: Casey Rowan is assigned to check the record before the workflow can close.

Fictional workflow status only. “Complete” does not represent authorization to release analytical results.
Problem
Sample status can become spread across spreadsheets, email, paper, and separate systems.
Tool
A queue with filters and a selected sample’s stage, owner, due date, and next action.
Intended benefit
Help staff find the next action without losing sight of work that is on hold.
How this could fit alongside existing systems

The lab would define the stages, owners, and handoff rules. A small first tool could track just one supporting queue. Which records remain authoritative, how updates reach this view, and whether an integration is available would be agreed before building.

02 · Review with context

QC review

A QC list with an unresolved duplicate warning. Checking every item still leaves the batch disposition to a reviewer.

Duplicate exceeds the example criterion

Casey Rowan · Original snapshot · 14 Oct 2026, 11:36

Check the preparation notes and duplicate calculation before deciding the next step. Keep the sample review open.

Disposition: pending reviewer decision · No automatic acceptance or release.

RPD means relative percent difference: the absolute difference between a duplicate pair divided by its mean, multiplied by 100. The displayed RPD and recoveries are illustrative values, not calculations performed by this page; the underlying duplicate and spike measurements are not included. These criteria are not requirements for real analysis.

Original fictional snapshot

  1. Morgan Vale · Submitted the example batch for review.
  2. Casey Rowan · Recorded the blank check.
  3. Casey Rowan · Added a duplicate-review comment.
  4. Review remains open · Reference check and duplicate disposition pending.
“Within range” refers only to the invented criterion. A recorded check does not resolve the duplicate warning, accept a batch, or release results.
Problem
Reviewers may need to check repetitive QC conditions across several files or systems.
Tool
A review list with explicit check states, observations, and a visible unresolved exception.
Intended benefit
Make checked items easier to distinguish from unresolved analytical decisions.
Where human review stays in the process

The laboratory would define the applicable checks, criteria, permissions, and review requirements. A flag would direct attention to a condition; an authorized reviewer would interpret it and decide what happens next. This preview makes no validation, regulatory-compliance, or result-release claim.

Read the fictional method reference

Metals in water · illustrative · Revision 1

Fictional workflow reference: confirm the assignment, record the aliquot and preparation volume, check the label and record, then document the handoff.

This illustrates how a method reference could be linked to an assignment. It is not an analytical procedure or instructions for real laboratory work.

Read the fictional preparation handoff checklist
  • Sample ID and container label checked.
  • Required preparation entries reviewed.
  • Open questions assigned to an owner.
  • Handoff status recorded after the preceding checks. A real workflow would also define the receiving analyst and handoff details.

In this snapshot, DEMO-103 has not reached this handoff. DEMO-104 still has an open preparation question.

A checked step represents a demo workflow action, not approval of the preparation or analytical record.
Problem
Assignments, preparation notes, and completion checks can be scattered across separate lists and documents.
Tool
One preparation checklist with ordered steps, notes, and a linked workflow reference.
Intended benefit
Keep unfinished checks visible before work moves to analysis.
What a real preparation tool would need

Record ownership, required fields, editing permissions, change history, retention, and review responsibilities would need to follow the lab’s requirements. A first tool could show preparation checks while the lab’s existing system holds the official record.
